SAL is on the way to building the competence for modelling, simulation and validation of integrated systems. This will lead to seamless workflows between multi-physical models and the embedded software, and altogether to the behavior of the complete cyber-physical systems in terms of functionality, robustness, reliability, interoperability and compliance to regulatory requirements. There is a high expectation by the industrial partners to boost this competency and its results, and it forms the methodology base for many system research projects at SAL as well.
SAL starts Doctoral College for research elite of tomorrow
At the SAL Doctoral College (SAL DC), which has been established together with the partner universities TU Graz, JKU Linz and AAU Klagenfurt, up to 50 doctoral students will be researching the most diverse aspects of EBS future technologies – either within the framework of the Uni-SAL Research Labs in the field of basic research or in cooperative research projects with industry. It is planned to extend this collaboration to other universities, such as TU Wien, as well.  

On the one hand, the SAL DC will further strengthen cooperation with the universities and, on the other hand, will launch a joint offensive in the search for the experts of tomorrow in Austria and from abroad.

SAL COMET Center ASSIC: Fourier Transform Spectrometer
Within the COMET ASSIC program, SAL works on various projects with partners from industry and science. Amongst others, we created a fourier transform spectrometer for the near infra-red. You can learn more about the project in our latest video

**This project was performed within the COMET Centre ASSIC Austrian Smart Systems Integration Research Center, which is funded by BMK, BMDW, and the Austrian provinces of Carinthia and Styria, within the framework of COMET - Competence Centres for Excellent Technologies. The COMET programme is run by FFG.

Project AnaGen: Analog generators for innovative analog or mixed-signal circuit design
Creating more powerful generators for agile analog or mixed-signal design is the goal of "AnaGen", a joint project with Infineon, JKU Linz and the University of Applied Sciences Carinthia. With automated design workflows, the creation of a database for generators, baseband blocks and systems, and the use of machine learning, the AnaGen project aims to optimize the design workflow by looking at the system level.

Project partners benefit from faster on-demand use of circuit blocks through the use of analog generators, lower error rates and shorter time-to-market. Further project partners are welcome here.


SAL presents Austrian research on the international playing field
In January, we attended two international conferences to present our research. From January 18th to 22nd, Mohssen Moridi, Sarah Risquez, Adrien Piot and Heimo Müller represented SAL and the Microsystem Technologies (MST) unit at the MEMS conference in Vancouver. As the only team from Austria, they attended the conference and welcomed people at their booth in the exhibition hall where they showed off our MEMS micro mirrors demonstrator.

From January 27th to 29th, Rudolf Heer represented SAL at the Nano Tech 2020 in Tokyo. The exhibition and conference was attended by more than 47,000 individuals from a variety of industries, R&D and business development.

... for DI Dr. Hans-Peter Bernhard who has been promoted to Principal Scientist. Hans-Peter is head of the research unit "Wireless Communication Networks" at SAL Linz as well as Senior Scientist at the Institute of Communications and RF Systems at JKU Linz. He holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Technical Sciences from the TU Wien. Within SAL, he is also responsible for the SAL Doctoral College, research documentation and for research in the field of smart industrial IoT, wireless real time communication, physical layer security and protocols.
